Important Note:
Images A & B are two views of the same piece. The top side (A) and
the underside (B) of the button face. Image C is the retainer. There
are 2 pieces to a cover button set.
Place fabric on a flat
surface with the side of you want to be seen on the button
face down. The "wrong" side will be facing you. Cut the fabric
allowing enough fabric to fold over the edge of the button to about
half way to the shank. Sew a gather stitch around the edge of the
fabric.
Pull the gather stitch
taut - all the time moving and adjusting the fabric to reduce the
size of the gathers. Try and make the gathers uniform in size and
spaced equally apart. When you are happy with the result tighten the
gather stitch and secure it around the button shank.
Now you need to secure the fabric by fastening the
retainer. It is important that the retainer side with the concave
surface is facing downwards, when you place the retainer on the
shank the convex surface should be facing you. See the green tick.
